‘Thomas Bangalter explains the reasons about Daft Punk separation

“The last thing I would like to be, in the world we live in, in 2023, is a robot.”

Two years, yes, 24 months, it is true they haven’t been together since we have no idea when and we said we don’t have idea because before the announcement they were performing maybe once a year since 2008-2010 and finally in 2021 they did it, they did split. The legendary electronic duo, Daft Punk, decided to end their union. Formed by Guy-Manuel Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, this musical project originated in France in 1993. They announced their separation without mentioning any reasons,  yes 2021 COVID year.

Now 2023 in a new interview with the BBC, Bangalter finally opened up about what led the duo to go their separate ways and what his life and career have been like since then. “Daft Punk was a project that blurred the line between fact and fiction with these robotic characters. It was a very important point for me and for Guy-Manuel not to spoil the narrative while it was happening.”

After he mentioned: “I love technology as a tool but I am somehow terrified of the nature of the relationship between machines and ourselves. Now that the story is over, I found it interesting to reveal a part of the creative process that is very human and not algorithmic at all.

This is how the duo came to an end on February 22, 2021, announcing their separation with one last joint video.

A few days ago and before Bangalter’s first solo gig showcase in more than two decades. After working on his own, the Frenchman has dedicated himself to work on Mythologies, an album apparently conceived as a ballet score that was presented at the Grand Theater-Bordeaux during the last summer, we don’t expect so much now and of course not the same sound, but we are curious about what will be, could be a new Daft Punk era or maybe it is our imagination, but will be nice to re-listened something from the past.

Also, a few months ago we heard of a new book about Daft Punk’s life that promises to cover his career and the legacy that the duo left in electronic music. The release will apparently arrive in 2024 and will include features from artists like Franz Ferdinand, CSS, Disclosure, and Porter Robinson, among others.
