Cage the Elephant, the acclaimed American rock band, is set to embark on their highly anticipated tour starting February 13, 2025. This tour follows the release of their sixth studio album, Neon Pill, which debuted on May 17, 2024. The album has been lauded for its authentic expression and musical evolution.
Neon Pill represents a significant milestone for the band, marking their first full release in around five years since 2019’s Social Cues. The album was produced by John Hill and recorded across various renowned studios, including Sonic Ranch in El Paso and Electric Lady in New York. It features a diverse range of tracks, from the strutting glam of “Ball and Chain” to the piano ballad “Out Loud” and the airy alt-rock of “Float Into the Sky.” The title track, “Neon Pill,” has become the band’s 11th number-one song on Billboard’s Alternative Chart.
The creation of Neon Pill was deeply personal for the band, as they navigated significant challenges during its production. Lead vocalist Matthew Shultz faced a mental health crisis, which led to his arrest in January 2023 for firearm possession. Following this incident, Shultz underwent hospitalization and treatment, ultimately leading to his recovery. Reflecting on this period, Shultz stated, “It’s a miracle that I’m here today. I was arrested last year, and it undoubtedly saved my life.”
Despite these challenges, the band channeled their experiences into the album, resulting in a powerful collection of twelve tracks that highlight their resilience and growth. Shultz described the album as their most authentic and self-expressive work to date, stating, “To me, Neon Pill is the first record where we were consistently uninfluenced, and I mean that in a positive way.”
In support of Neon Pill, Cage the Elephant embarked on an extensive 47-date North American tour in 2024, bringing their electrifying live performances to cities across the continent. The tour featured support from Young The Giant and Bakar on most dates, offering fans an unforgettable concert experience.
